What is a Qualifying Life Event (QLE)?

A Qualifying Life Event (QLE) is a major life change—like getting married, having a baby, or losing other coverage—that allows someone to enroll in or make changes to their health insurance plan outside of the annual Open Enrollment Period. These events trigger a Special Enrollment Period, giving individuals a 31 day window to adjust their coverage.

Types of QLEs

Qualifying Life Events could be any one of the following:

Birth/Adoption of a child

Getting Married

Loss of other coverage

Gain of other coverage

Divorce

Death in the family

Report the QLE to bswift, WSP’s benefits administrator, and complete enrollment. Submit proof of QLE and dependent verification.
